Illinois politicians continue to shine brightly in Washington D.C.

On June 28th before the House, Congressman Brad Schneider (D-IL10) proposed an amendment to the Offshore Energy and Jobs act  to prohibit the "issuance of oil and gas leases" for the Great Lakes region and " to use only materials made in the United States in drilling operations".  As was pointed out by his esteemed, and apparently more intelligent, colleague, Congressman Flores (R-TX17)  "This motion epitomizes what's wrong with Washington Democrats' energy and economic plan.   Let's start with the obvious: the Great Lakes are not part of the Outer Continental Shelf. The second thing is current law already provides for offshore drilling to be done, using America's goods and service wherever practical. So their empty argument doesn't make any sense at all."

It is not clear from the Congressional Record whether Congressman Schneider has a history as a  community organizer or whether the possibility that he was experiencing teleprompter issues at the time.
